There’s a special Act of Parliament making it the law for NSW doctors to provide you with copies of your/their health records and information. Getting these copies can be vital to your health and wellbeing – but this law is treated as a joke by many NSW doctors, perhaps the majority, and, in our experience, the so called regulatory authorities and professional bodies won’t lift a finger to do anything about it.
We could write a book, and perhaps one day we will, about our attempts to get this changed in any way.
There’s ONLY ONE WAY – and we stress, ONLY ONE WAY – to give you some chance of getting copies of your health records and information from a doctor – and that is if you’ve emailed them before you’ve dealt with them, asking them, “If I was to become one of your patients, how would I go about getting copies of my health records and information?” and you’ve got a satisfactory reply.
If you haven’t done this, don’t ever expect to get copies of your health records and information! You have been warned – it’s up to you.
